While many of the club members were chalking up century miles four hardy square wheelers flew the club flag at the Bann Valley Classic at Clady nr Portglenone. A dry day but the cyclists' enemy "a strong wind" was present to make it a tough day for all racers.
Emmet rode in the A2 /A3 combined race and the A3s rode so hard that the 7 A2s struggled to make up the 4 mins handicap. The race was won by an A3 rider who just moved upto A4 by beating Gareth at the recent PJ Logan ! Emmet had a good race, twice bridging big gaps to hang onto the flying A3 men pushing a hard pace at the front. The strong sidewind on the exposed backend of the rolling circuit causing Emmet and the rest real problems, and really tested the ability to hold the wheel in front under real pressure.
Shane, Doc and John took the line for the A4 which was hot and heavy throughout, mopping up A3s being dropped from the start as they went. The club was well represented at the front of the field throughout and Doc and John finished in the bunch but outside the points. Kudos to Doc who was first Square Wheeler home .... his best result of the season on a circuit with a few punchy climbs at the tail end which suited his style well.
